The bio-ethanol to hydrogen system has the significant advantage of being nearlycarbon dioxideneutral, since the carbon dioxide produced is consumed for biomass growth, thus offering a nearly closed carbon loop. In addition, ethanol is relatively high hydrogen contents, non-toxic, safe and easy to transport. In this study, we investigated an ethanol reforming-membrane reactor with WGS reaction in the permeate side (EMRW) in order to achieve important aims in one process, such as improvement of ethanol conversion, high hydrogen recovery and CO reduction. ThePt-loaded composite membranes with high permeability were used as a membrane having catalytic activity for the WGS reaction. |
