Supramolecular hydrogen-bonded elastomer was prepared by melt mixing of semicrystalline maleated poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (mEVA) with 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (ATA). Maleic anhydride group of mEVA is reacted with amino group of ATA during the mixing to induce supramolecular hydrogen bonding networks in the elastomer system. Structure, thermal and mechanical properties of the ATA modified EVA was investigated by FTIR, DSC, DMA, and tensile testing, respectively. The results revealed that melting temperature and degree of crystallinity of the EVA decreased with increasing ATA content. Tensile modulus increased with increasing ATA content along with slight reduction in elongation-at-break. It was observed that scratch on the surface of the supramolecular elastomer can be healed upon heating in mild condition. |
