Energetic thermoplastic elastomers (ETPE) were prepared by melt blending of tetrazole containing nitrile-butadiene rubber (tetrazole-NBR) and ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA). The tetrazole-NBR was synthesized via tetrazole-cyclization reaction of commercially available NBR with NaN3 and NH4Cl. Morphology, thermomechanical properties, rheological properties and energy releasing capability of the blends were examined by SEM, DSC, DMA, tensile testing, oscillating rheometer and combustion test, respectively. The results revealed that the blends with tetrazole-NBR content upto 70 wt% behave like a thermoplastic elastomer possessing high elastic recoverability along with melt processibility. And, it was observed from combustion test that the higher tetrazole-NBR content in the blends, the higher energy can be released. |
