PMMA/EVA (80wt/20wt) blend was prepared by melt blending in the presence of tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate as a transesterification catalyst. Occurrence of the transesterification reaction between PMMA and EVA was confirmed by FT-IR. The morphology, mechanical properties, optical properties, melt viscosity and die swell were characterized. The results revealed that transesterification induced finer dispersion of EVA phase in PMMA matrix and the compatibilized blend show higher mechanical properties, higher melt viscosity, and die swell as compared to blend without catalyst. Further, the compatibilized PMMA/EVA blend showed total transmittance and haze of higher than 80%, which enable it to find potential applications to fabricate an optical diffuser by extrusion process. |
