제목 Effect of molecular structure and molecular weight distribution of heavy oil on the synthesis of petroleum-based mesophase pitch
초록 Mesophase pitch is one of the key precursors for the preparation of high performance carbon materials. In this study, we have investigated factors that can influence the quality of mesophase pitch, particularly in terms of molecular structure of feedstock. Fluidized catalytic cracking-decant oil (FCC-DO) was used as a feedstock for the mesophase pitch synthesis. To give changes in the molecular structure, the feedstock was thermally treated for up to 8 h at above 400 °C. Then, solvent extraction and thin-layer evaporation were carried out to adjust molecular weight distribution and to induce the emergence of anisotropic phase. The resulting products and the feedstock were analyzed by using a polarized light microscopy, a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy or a matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS).
