Carbon nanotubes (CNT) have widely used as filler material for composite reinforcement. Furthermore, CNT have small diameter (i.e., 0.6 to 100 nm) and low densities as low as 1.3 g/cm3, it could lead to achieve enhanced strength and toughness of CNT based composite materials. Regardless of these excellent characteristics, CNT cannot be used in polymeric matrix at high concentration due to its poor dispersibility in common solvents. For the reason, many researches have tried to improve dispersibility of CNT using functionalization process such as oxidation, carboxylation, amination and etc. These approaches might achieve enhanced dispersibility, but its harsh conditions could damage on CNT structures and decrease mechanical properties of CNT. Here, we demonstrate simple, eco-friendly and scalable process for well-dispersed CNT at various solvent using dopamine and polyethylene oxide based derivatives. It makes preparation of solubility tunable CNT without severe structural damages. |
