Thermoelectric and Piezoelectric Hybrid Energy Harvester with Autonomous Heat Radiation System |

The harvesting of ambient energy to power small electronics has been received immensely at-tention over the last decade. The main purpose of energy harvesting is to enable self-powered remote electronic devices such as wireless sensors and to supply auxiliary power to mobile elec-tronic devices like as cell phones and wearable computers. The ambient thermal, solar and vibra-tion energy can be converted to usable electrical energy for powering wireless and portable de-vices autonomously. Thermoelectric energy generators are employed for transforming thermal gradient to electrical energy using the Seebeck effect. The piezoelectric energy harvesters are normally used for generating electrical energy from an ambient vibration energy due to high en-ergy density, simple structure and low cost. It is necessary to combine these kinds of energy har-vester in order to ubiquitously supply a sufficient electric power to small electronic devices. In this study, we devised a noble hybrid energy harvester which is combination of piezoelectric and thermoelectric generators. The output power of thermoelectric generator within the hybrid energy harvester was increased about 20 % as improving temperature gradient (ΔT) by elevating heat radiation of thermoelectric harvester which is done by autonomous vibrations of a transcalent pie-zoelectric cantilever at the heat sink region of thermoelectrics. |
