Polymer composites have become an important area for development of new polymeric materials. Most polymers were restricted for using as heat sink materials due to their low thermal conductivity. In this study, polymer composites based on several fillers were prepared by melt mixing with various filler contents to improve thermal conductivity of polymers. Fracture surfaces of the composites were examined with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Thermal conductivities of the composites were measured by laser flash method. There is a substantial increase in thermal conductivity over the range of the filler content examined. A clear trade-off was observed between the thermal conductivity and Izod impact strength for these composites. |
