Highly refractive and transparent aromatic polyimides (APIs) containing phosphine oxide moieties were synthesized by conventional polycondensation of anhydride chloride with bis(4-((4-aminophenyl)thio)phenyl)(phenyl)phosphine oxide (BATPO) followed by thermal imidization, significantly expanding the reported range of these inherent high refractive index polymers. The characterization of BATPO was confirmed by 1H, 13C NMR, FT-IR. The APIs were measured thermal properties using TGA, DSC and DMA, and optical properties utilizing UV-vis absorption and prism coupler. The reflective index of APIs displayed low degree and low birefringence. These properties are explained that the high level energy of phosphorus electronic structure can assist stability electronic distortions, leading to greater polarizability and a high refractive index. Therefore fabricating these APIs excellent potential candidates for a scope of optical applications. |
