Ethylene polymerization catalyst based on bidendate α-diimine ligands coordinated to nickel are reported. The ligand is prepared via the condensation of 2,6-dimethylaniline with acenaphthenequinone, and the catalyst is prepared via coordination of these ligand to (1,2-dimethoxyethane)NiBr2 to form complex. The side amine groups of ligand and complex is then reacted with glycidol. The resulting multi-hydroxyl groups drive supramolecular interaction together with π-π stacking. In order to test self-assembly behavior of the complex, the solution mixture is dialyzed in deionized water for 24 h. Self-assembled nanoscale hollow spheres are observed by TEM. Using these obtained particles as bulky catalysts for ethylene polymerizations, PE beads are produced. |
