제목 Optical engineering in organic photovoltaic cells
초록 We present the trade-off between optical absorption and internal quantum efficiency in thin-film photovoltaic (PV) cells. It is essential for enhanced power conversion efficiency of organic PV cells to figure out how to increase optical absorption efficiency while internal quantum efficiency is kept high. Through optical engineering, we can relieve the trade-off of thin-film PV in ray-optics, and wave-optics regimes. In ray-optics regime, light trapping scheme should be utilized not only in active layer but in the whole device including substrate. We combine concentrator and trapper to maximize the power conversion efficiency of the thin-film PV. In wave-optics regime, we consider incorporating metal nanoparticles in the devices. We extended Mie’s approach to estimate the absorption and scattering efficiency of metal nanoparticles embedded in an absorbing medium. This theory predicts the spatially localized and spectrally broadband optical absorption enhancement.
