Biodiesel has attracted much attention as a renewable, non-toxic and eco-friendly alternative fuel. Biodiesel is produced conventionally through two-step process, which involves the extraction of lipids from biomass using organic solvent and then a transesterification reaction of the extracted lipid. This two-step process needs additional cost steps such as solvent recovery step and oil clean up step to remove glycerol, by product. In this study, we developed a dimethyl carbonate (DMC)-based one-pot reactive extraction method. This one-pot reactive extraction method produce simultaneously FAMEs and glycerol carbonate directly from microalgaeusing a lipasewith DMC as an acyl acceptor, extraction solvent, substrate of glycerol carbonate production and reaction medium.Various reaction conditions were optimized for efficient production of FAMEs from microalgae biomass. |
