Magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) have advantages and great potentials in bioassays due to their useful property as tools for separation of biological compounds or as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging. In this study, we applied quantum dots (QDs), which have unique optical and electronic properties, to the magnetic NPs in order to obtain high bioimaging performance. The quantum dot-embedded magnetic silica NPs (M-QD2) have a core-shell structure. The inner part of the silica NPs has a magnetic core and the outer part was embedded with quantum dots, and then coated with silica shell layer. We demonstrate the usefulness of M-QD2 in bio-imaging. |
