Ion Conduction and Mechanical Property of Epoxy-based Structural Polymer Electrolytes |

Polymer electrolytes are of great interest as materials in energy storage devices such as lithium ion batteries and supercapacitors. The key challenge facing the development of polymer electrolytes for the energy applications is to achieve high mechanical performance without sacrificing the requisite ionic conductivity. We prepare epoxy-based structural polymer electrolytes including Li salts with plasticizers. The curing of a homogenous mixture of epoxy and electrolyte can generate a two-phase system where the epoxy phase is selected to provide mechanical strength and the electrolyte phase is selected to maximize ionic conductivity. Here, we conduct an investigate of the effect of electrolyte types and their concentration on the ionic conductivity and young’s modulus of epoxy-based structural polymer electrolytes. |
