The present work reports a convenient approach to synthesize metal doped titanium dioxide (M-TiO2) suitable for hetereogeneous catalysis in the presence of natural solar light. TiO2 has a wide energy band gap of 3.2eV and can thus be excited only by UV. The samples were essentially synthesized by sol-gel process using titanium oxysulphate as a titania precursor and metal nitrate trihydrate as dopant source. The effect of the dopant on the physic-chemical properties of the samples was studied through various metal(Ce, Mn, Cu, Fe) and sintering of the samples at 600 0C. The properties of the obtained samples were examined by XRD, FE-SEM, HRTEM, TGA, and UV-vis DRS. The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) in the presence of natural sunlight was attempted to evaluate the practical applicability of the obtained photocatalysts. |
