Conducting Polymer Film with Low Percolation Threshold Driven by Aspect Ratio Controlled Nanorod Compatibilizer |

Interfacial tension and compatibility of immiscible binary polymer blend can be tuned by containing preferentially located nanoparticle (NP) surfactants at the interface. We experimentally investigated the compatibilizing effect as a function of aspect ratio (AR) of CuPt nanorod (NR) surfactants in polymer blend. The aspect ratios of NR were varied from 1 to 6 with same dimension of width (~5 nm). And, PS colloidal particle and electrically conductive PTPA homopolymer were selected for observing the miscibility change through the electrical conductivity in a continuous conducting film with low percolation threshold. The morphological behaviors of polymer blend films was observed by SEM and TEM, thus all types of CuPt NRs were successfully employed as compatibilizers and continuous PTPA phase was formed increasing volume fraction of NRs. The conductivity of polymer blend films was measured by two probe-method to support morphological behaviors. |
