High performance sensing motif of optical properties caused by periodical array structure of inverse opal hydrogels |

Inverse opal hydrogels have been drawing much attention due to their novel property. IOHs can show tunable color by changing the volume of their scaffolds. We fabricated high quality macroporous IOHs film by templating photo-polymerization of hydrogel monomers on a three-dimensional polystyrene colloidal array. First, the array was prepared by self-assembly of monodisperse PS nanoparticles, based on capillary flow in droplet of colloidal suspensions covered with silicone oil. Next, we backfilled the array with hydrogel precursor materials, followed by cross-linking using UV light. After removal of the PS array with chloroform, we finally obtained macroporous IOHs. Finally, the structural dimensions and diffracted lights were analyzed by scanning electron spectroscopy and visible light detectors. Based on above optimized fabrication of IOHs, our further research on development of bio-responsive IOHs for the detection of bio-functional signals would open new avenues in medical diagnosis. |
