Electro-Optical Properties with the Change of Thermal Transition |

The electro-optical performance of holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystals (HPDLC) were investigated with the various glass transition temperature (Tg) of polymer matrix to the formulations of conventional polyurethane acrylate based HPDLC. The structural effects of prepolymer using different polyol (poly(propylene glycol) (PPG), poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG)) on the photopolymerization process change anchoring energy of liquid crystal (LC) droplet. Decrease of Tg of polymer matrix not only decreased the surface anchoring energy but also induced low driving voltage of the films. For electro-optical measurements, a square wave voltage operating from 0 to 80V was applied across the HPDLC cell. The morphology of the HPDLC gratings was characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). |
