Self-healing is the ability that healed without external stimulation when a defect occurs in the material. Self-healing has been inspired by nature and has proved successful in self-healing from external stimuli such as pH, radiation, light, current, and heat. If material is damaged, the tensile strength, fatigue life, and others are dramatically decreased. Hence, such an effort to improve a safety and life time of polymeric materials by introducing self-healing properties has been increased in recent years. Here, we report that flexible, stretchable, and self-healable synthesized polycarbonate based polymers by introducing urethane functional groups. The film fabricated using these polymers showed flexible and stretchable properties with self-healing ability. The self-healing ability was quantized by comparing tensile strength and strain of films before and after healing via thermal treatment using universal test machine (UTM). |
