This study was intended to develop a technology for manufacturing high strength refractory ceramic fibers (RCFs) utilizing fly ash which is a highly promising materials for an exterior and thermal insulation industry. Fly ash, has an aluminosilicate chemical composition, was used as the main material by discharging and collecting from the thermal power plant, and basalt, anorthite, feldspar, dolomite, and calcite was used as auxiliary raw materials to impart the melt flowability to fly ash, and frit, silica sand, and burr stone were used as additives to lower the melting temperature of molten aluminosilicate. We showed that the spin ability was affected by the chemical composition of salt-forming oxides in fly ash compounds calculating the fibrilization index. We also found the correlation with winding speed and fiber diameter. The mechanical property of a series of fly ash fibers was evaluated. |
