Recently, the supply of bio-fuels for transportation is increasing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by fossil fuel combustion. Bio-diesel is one of the cleanest alternative energy sources and is made from renewable raw materials such as vegetable and animal fats. The waste oil generated after food production, such as fried oils and fatty oils, can be recycled as bio-diesel.In this study, a process flow diagram for bio-diesel production including offensive odor treatment, waste-water treatment, pre-treatment of feed, water washing process, and separation process was presented. The mass and energy balance were calculated in a commercial process simulator, ASEPN Plus. The techno-economic feasibility of the process was analyzed by calculating total capital investment (TCI), total production cost (TPC), return on investment (ROI), and payback period (PBP). |
