제목 Synthesis of Novel T-Type Nonlinear Optical Polyimides and Their Properties
초록 Recently, attention has been focused on the synthesis of nonlinear optical (NLO) polymers because of their potential applications in the field of telecommunications, optical signal processing, optical switching, etc.1 In the developments of nonlinear optical (NLO) polymers for electro-optic device applications relaxation of electrically induced dipole alignment is important consideration. Two approaches to minimize the randomization have been proposed. One is to use crosslinked system and the other is to use a high glass transition temperatures (Tgs) polymers such as polyimides. Polyimides are one of promising NLO materials because of their high Tgs and high thermal stability for electro-optic devices applications.2-4 In this work we prepared novel soluble polyimides containing 2,5-dioxybenzylidenemalononitrile. 2,5-Di-(2-hydroxyethoxy)benzylidenemalononitrile (3) was prepared by hydrolysis of 2,5-di-(2-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenemalononitrile (2). Diol 3 was reacted with trimellitic anhydride chloride to yield 2,5-bis-(3,4-dicarboxyphenylcarboxyethoxy)-1-(2,2-dicyanovinyl)benzene dianhydride (4). Compound 4 was reacted with 1,4-phenylenediamine, and 4,4-oxydianiline to give novel Y-type polyimides 5-6 containing 2,5-dioxybenzylidenemalononitrile as a NLO-chromophore, which constitutes a part of polymer backbone. The chemical structure of the polymers was confirmed by 1H NMR, IR spectra, and elemental analysis. The resulting polyimides 5-6 were soluble in polar solvents such as acetone and DMF. Characterization and measurements of SHG activities and their thermal stabilities are under progress.
