To improve PP’s competitiveness in engineering resin applications, it needs dimensional stability, stiffness, strength, and impact resistance. Therefore, a special emphasis has been placed on the development of nano-filled PP by means of inorganic or organic nanocomposites. Attempts to fully exfoliate clay partices in PP have been fraught with many challengers because of the mismatch in surface polarities between clay and PP. In this study, impact modified polypropylene nanocomposites were preapared by compounding maleated-PP , maleated-EPR, and EPDM with organophilic clay modified with hexamethylene diamine to improve dispersability. High dispersion of silicate layers can be achieved from simple amidation between the maleic anhydride group and the amine group of clay. we confirmed the semi-exfoliation structure between silicates layers. And the maleic group coud be one of intercalating agent. In the XRD measurements, they show exfoliated structure. |
