Novel visible light plasmonic Ag/TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared by impregnation method for water splitting to produce hydrogen under natural and artificial solar light irradiation. The as-prepared samples were characterized by various techniques such as XRD, UV–vis DRS, Raman, FTIR, TPR, TEM, XPS, PL and BET surface area techniques. DRS studies clearly displayed SPR effect of Ago in Ag/TiO2 samples. Furthermore, there was a SPR shift in absorption spectra. In Ag/TiO2 sample produced the higher hydrogen production, which is due to the interaction between the Ag+ with TiO2 and SPR effect of Ag nanoparticles. The evidence that the interaction of localized electric fields with the neighboring semiconductor allows for the selective formation of electron/hole (e-/h+) pairs in the near-surface region of the semiconductor. |
