제목 Immobilization of pamidronic acid on the composite nanofiber of titania/hydroxyapatite/tetraethyl orthosilicate for biomedical applications
초록 Titania (TiO2) is used in orthopaedic implants because of its good biocompatibility. Hydroxyapatite (HA) is a well-known and a valuable implant material with biocompatibility and bioactive properties. Bisphosphonates such as pamidronate inhibit osteoclastic activity and reduce bone resorption. In this study, TiO2/HA composite nanofibers with different compositions were prepared by electrospinning their sol precursors of TiO2, HA, and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and calcining the as-spun fibers at high temperatures. Pamidronate was then immobilized on the surface of nanofibers using succinic anhydride or poly(ethylene glycol) bis(carboxymethyl) ether as the spacer. The pamidronate-conjugated nanofibrous scaffolds were characterized by SEM, TEM, FT-IR and ESCA. The potential of this nanofiber for use as bone scaffolds was assessed by using osteoblasts and osteoclasts in terms of adhesion, proliferation and differentiation.
