Photocatalytic activity in visible light of TiO2 with carbon-fluorine introduced by Plasma |

In this paper, CF4 plasma surface treatment is performed on commercial TiO2 to improve a photocatalytic efficiency. The photodegradation efficiency of TiO2 is significantly increased from 50.2% to 82.1% in 120 min via CF4 plasma treatment of TiO2. In addition, TiO2 treated with CF4 plasma exhibits a photodegradation rate constant of 0.0150 min-1, which is 2.6 times higher than that of TiO2 (0.0057 min-1). It is, thus, determined that CF4 plasma treatment effectively improves the photocatalytic effect of TiO2. It is attributed to the increase of oxygen vacancies by the introduction of heterogeneous elements of C and F atoms into TiO2 using CF4 plasma treatment. In addition, the F- ion species physically adsorbed on the TiO2 surface promotes the formation of hydroxy free radicals, so that the decomposition of rhodamine B occurs effectively. |
