제목 Anaerobic Microbial Decolorization of an Azo Dye Wastewater
초록 Azo dyes are widely used in textile, and have become of concern in wastewater treatment because of their color, bio-recalcitrance, and potential toxicity to animals and humans. Thus, wasterwater with azo dyes must be decolorized and furthermore mineralized in appropriate systems combinding biological and chemical processes.
Anaerobic biological treatment of a dye wastewater is required to degrade xenobiotic organics before the aerobic stage, since microorganisms don't consume the xenobiotics in an aerobic condition.
The effect of temperature was investigated to achieve the maximum color removal efficiency in a shaking flask by anaerobic mixed cultures. Decolorization was done at various temperatures ; 10℃, 20℃, 30℃ and 35℃, respectively. Decolorization efficiency increased with the increase of temperature.
Effect of carbon sources such as glucose and methanol was also investigated while methanol could not.
Since the sulfide produced via sulfate respiration by sulfate reducing bacteria(SRB) can enhance the decolorization of azo dyes, SRB has been co-cultured with anaerobic dye digesters.
