제목 Cultivation of Tetraselmis sp. Using Hypersaline Culture Medium to Control Biological Contamination and Improve Fatty Acids Productivity
초록 Microalgae are one of promising sources for biodiesel production which can replace fossil fuels for transportation. In large-scale open cultivation of microalgae, the culture is exposed to biological contaminations that can substantially reduce algal biomass and fatty acid productivity. Even a total collapse of culture may occur if contamination is not controlled promptly. In this study, a greeen microalga Tetraselmis sp. MBEyh04GC was cultivated in modified f/2-Si medium with different salinities to investigate the effect of salinity on biological contamination and fatty acid productivities. As the result, biological contaminations in algal cultures were lower at higher salinities. High salinities also increased fatty acids contents until 80 PSU, and then it started to decrease at higher salinity. The results of this study indicate that high salinity could be used to prevent biological contamination and increase fatty acids productivity in marine microalgal cultures.
