The n-butyric acid production through the microbial fermentation attracts great attention. However, for the industrial uses, separation and recovery processes are crucial, which currently relies on energy incentive extraction processes. The possibility of n-butyric acid recovery by various type zeolite was first explored. Although [OH]_MFI, LTA, and FAU zeolite showed preferential adsorption toward n-butyric acid, [OH]_MFI had exhibited the highest n-butyric acid/acetic acid and n-butyric acid/propionic acid selectivity, 3.11 and 2.08. Furthermore, [F]_MFI zeolite with less defective silanol groups and nests showed improved n-butyric acid/acetic acid and n-butyric acid/propionic acid selectivity, 7.43 and 3.21. The results reflect that selective n-butyric acid adsorption by zeolite was mainly driven by hydrophobic interaction between n-butyric acid and zeolite framework. In addition, zeolite adsorbents were recyclable and had shown on negligible adsorption of glucose on MFI zeolite. |
