Diacetyelene molecules have been a great interest owing to mimicking the self-organization and functionalization of the cell membrane. Liposomes composed of polydiacetylene(PDA) have unique optical characteristics that blue to red colorimetric transition and auto-fluorescence by external stress including temperature, molecular recognition, pH, solvent, and mechanical stress. In this study, we detected proteinic food spoilage using PDA/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hybrid films which consist of PDA liposomes imbedded in PVA matrix. This hybrid films is safe to handle and easy to check the place is polluted with toxic materials or not. Upon food spoilage, ammonia gas is generated due to protein transmutation. By means of detecting ammonia gas, we can determine food spoilage with naked eye by observing from blue to red color transition of films. These results propose that the novel PDA/PVA hybrid films can be applied to various gas sensors. |
