Self-Assembled Nanostructures of Functional Polymers in Nano-Confined Geometries |

Piezoelectric or π-conjugated polymers have been used for piezoelectric devices and organic electronics, respectively. In order to improve charge transport along these polymers, we developed highly-ordered nanoarrays in Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-trifluoroethylene) (PVDF-TrFE) and poly(3-hexyl thiophene) (P3HT) thin films, respectively, instead of flat ones: these nanoarrays were fabricated with parabolic-shaped anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) templates, where pore diameters and depths were well defined. In order to characterize structural morphologies of these polymer nanoarrays, grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction and microscopic analyses were performed. In addition, conducting-probe atomic force microscopy was performed to characterize structure-dependent charge transports in these nanostructures, compared to those in flat-typed control samples. |
