Metal-Free Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization with a Visible Light Organic Photocatalyst |

The development of an atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) system without any transition metal catalyst for electronic and biomedical applications is in pressing need. Photocatalysis under visible light is one of the promising strategies to meet the increasing demand for more sustainable green chemical processes, and employing photocatalysis for controlled/living radical polymerization is an emerging research focus area attracting significant interest in material and biomedical chemistry. We have studied metal-free ATRP of several monomers using an organic visible-light photocatalyst, and herein we report the effects of reaction conditions on the conversion and product properties. |
