제목 Bio-inspired Omniphobic Surfaces created by Colloidal Lithography
초록 Many creatures in nature have designed their biological surfaces with controlled micro- and nanoscale textures to possess unique wetting properties which help survive. For example, springtail which is a soil-dewelling insect, has unusual overhanging surface structures, which helps prevent wetting of the body from aqueous and organic liquids. Such omniphobic surfaces are very useful even for human being due to their ultra-dry and self-cleaning properties. Inspired from the nature, we have mimicked the surface architecture of springtails using colloidal lithography. Monodisperse silica particles are assembled into a hexagonal array on surface of polymer film, which serves as template to create hexagonal array of air cavities in the film. Dry etching help further engineer the architecture; the continuous polymer surface evolves to array of discrete inverted triangular pyramids in a course of the etching. This renders the surface to be omniphobic by facilitating the impregnation of air.
