Fabrication of Reversible Dual Colorimetric pH sensors based on photonic crystals based on block copolymers |

Photonic crystals based on block copolymers have been developed for reversible dual colorimetric pH sensing using the variation of optical properties of photonic crystals. Here, we report pH sensors prepared from the self-assembly of one-dimensional lamellar forming block copolymers. This results in responsive photonic crystals that can detect pH and type of acid via additional swelling of hydrophilic domains of self-assembled block copolymers by contacting with acid solution. pH sensors developed in this study are highly responsive to pH and kind of acid, which yields extremely large optical and repeatedly reversible changes. We also demonstrate a series of pH sensors which show different color changes by controlling both degree of crosslinking density and average molecular weight of self-assembled block copolymers. |
