An UV transparency and stability of the encapsulant in the UV-LED packaging are needed for efficiency and reliability of UV-LEDs. However, conventional silicone encapsulants are prone to UV absorption due to the extensive organic groups and thus not resistant to UV light. In this study, we report on a siloxane hybrid material (hybrimer) encapsulant, which was derived from hydrosilylation of vinyl and hydrogen oilgosiloxane resins. The oligosiloxane resins were synthesized by hydrolytic sol-gel reaction of dimethyldiethoxysilane, 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl trimethoxysilane, and methylvinyldimethoxysilane. The hybrimer containing showed high UV transmittance (> 80%, at 300 nm). The high level of UV transparency was achieved by minimizing organic groups and densely cross-linked structure. In particular, the hybrimer exhibits superior UV stability in the long-term UVB (280 ~ 320 nm) aging test due to the high siloxane content and cross-linking density. |
