Nano-sized, dextran-coated iron oxide (IO) particles were prepared by a precipitation method. Dextran-coated nanoparticles were dispersed in poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) aqueous solution and electrospun at a flow rate of 0.2 ml/h, an applied voltage of 22 kV and a capillary to target distance of 20 cm. The ratio of the dextran-coated IO particles to PEO dispersed in water was varied from 0, 20, 40 and 60%. The structure and properties of PEO containing dextran-coated IO particles were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffracton (XRD) and magnetic property measurement system (MPMS). The nanofibers with average diameter ranging from 200 to 300 nm were obtained. Nanofibers aggregated with an increase of iron oxide particles. In addition, nanofibers containing up to 60% dextran-coated nanoparticles displayed superparamagnetism at room temperature. |
