Isomerization of Tetrahydrotricyclopentadiene Using Acidic Ionic Liquid Catalyst |

A process for isomerization of tetrahydrotricyclopentadiene(THTCPD) using various acidic ionic liquid as catalyst is provided. THTCPD has especially been useful for volume-limited aerospace applications such as turbojet and rokets. Moreover, exo-THTCPD is attractive fuel as one of the promising liquid fuel due to its high density and low freezing point. An exo-THTCPD is produced form endo-THTCPD through isomerization reaction. In this study, the isomerization of THTCPD has been investigated by using chloroaluminate ionic liquids and conventional AlCl3 catalyst. Analysis of the product was conducted using gas chromatography. The effect of reaction parameters and types of ionic catalyst on the THTCPD isomerization will be discussed to optimize the isomerization reaction process. |
