Properties of flexible polyurethane foams prepared with the recovery polyol from old automotive seats |

Studies on the application of recycled products are important for the sustainability. It is generally well known that polyols can be recovered from the waste automotive seats via chemical recycling process. Glycolysis of flexible polyurethane foams (FPUFs) from automotive seats was carried out. The recovered polyol have higher hydroxyl values and showed higher reactivity compared with conventional polyether polyol for FPUFs. Thus recovered polyols were mixed with conventional polyether polyol to prepare FPUFs. The recovered polyol could be incorporated up to 30 wt% of the polyol to prepare FPUFs without deterioration of the foam properties. The physical properties, such as cellular morphology, thermal, and mechanical properties of FPUFs based on the recovered polyol were investigated for the various applications of the recovered polyol. It was found that the physical properties of FPUFs prepared from recovered polyol are higher or comparable to those of the conventional FPUFs. |
