Ficus carica L., also known as common fig, has been used in traditional medicine as remedies for many health problems. Some of the most notable therapeutic activities include antitumor and hepatoprotective activities. However, little information on the anti-inflammatory activity is available. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effect and the underlying mechanism of Ficus carica. Ficus carica extracts (FCE) significantly inhibited nitric oxide production in Raw 264.7 cells. The expression of iNOS and COX-2 induced by LPS were also reduced. Morevoer, FCE inhibited the NF-kB signal pathway associated with inflammation. Diverse evidence showing the anti-inflammatory activity of FCE will be presented in this study. |
