Novel preparation method of polymer/layered silicates nanocomposites |

Aiming to fabricate inorganic/organic nanocomposites generating many exciting new materials with novel properties that cannot be obtained by simple co-mixing the polymeric component with the inorganic component, the interface control becomes much more challenging. Once polymer with polar functional groups was introduced into gallery of layered silicates, our recent research results demonstrated that the adhesive role of guest polymer chains between hydrophilic silicate layers, so-called “glue effect” tends to strongly prohibit complete dissociation of silicate nanoplatelets. To prepare polymer/layered silicates nanocomposites of exfoliated state, therefore, it was conducted to elucidate the role of interaction energy at interface between layered silicates and polymer intercalant, and to develop a novel method to avoid glue effect between silicates host and polymer guest. |
