Lithium ion battery has been considered as one of the powerful energy storage systems. Carbon based material is the most commonly used anode material and graphite is important material to the battery industry and other energy storage applications. Natural graphite is considered as a supply risk material due to shortage, and the diverse artificial graphitization processes are too inefficient to be used for graphitization of carbon, so an alternative method of graphitizing the carbon for use as an anode material is highly desired. In this work, activated carbon is simply graphitized by microwave with catalyst. Moreover, the characteristics of microwave-graphitized activated carbon material as an anode material of lithium ion batteries are electrochemically studied. Microwave irradiation is an effective way to synthesize the graphitic carbon from low-crystalline activated carbon for use as an anode material. |
