Platinum loaded various zeolites (Beta, ZSM-5, FER, MOR, ZSM-23) applied for the hydroisomerization of n-hexadecane and characterized by various methods such as XRD, XRF, N2 adsorption, CO chemisorption, and NH3-TPD. They are representative of large-pore, medium-pore, 1-dimensional channel and zigzag channel type of zeolites. Pt/ZSM-23 catalyst with 1-dimensional channel structure showed better isomerization selectivity, while the Pt/Beta, Pt/ZSM-5, Pt/FER and Pt/MOR catalysts showed higher cracking activity and lower isomerization selectivity. These results indicate that the selectivity to isomerization in hydroisomerization of n-hexadecane is highly influenced by channel structure in zeolites and the conversion is dependent on acidity of molecular sieves. |
