Synthesis of Novel DPAA Based Block Copolymers by RAFT Polymerization and Their Morphology Control |

A new crystalline monomer, p-dodecylphenyl-N-acrylamide (DPAA) was synthesized by reacting acryloyl chloride with p-dodecylaniline in high yield. Novel block copolymers with different compositions of poly(DPAA) and poly(n-butyl acrylate) (or poly(methyl methacrylate)) as hard and soft segments were successfully prepared by using RAFT polymerization. The composition ratio of the block copolymers and their molecular weights were controlled by changing the concentration of DPAA against macro-chain transfer agent and polymerization time. The block copolymerization proceeded with controlled/living characteristics. Thermal and physical properties of the block copolymers were investigated by DSC, TGA and GPC. The morphologies of thin films of the block copolymers cast from solvent were examined by atomic force microscopy. |
