The nylon 6 and clay nanoparticle were melt-mixed in a Haake twin screw extruder using a counter-rotating screw configuration. The dispersion state of nanoparticle was identified by FE-SEM image, 2D-WAXD image, and TEM image. The thermal properties of nanocomposites were measured by DSC in nitrogen atmosphere. The incorporation of nanoparticles into nylon 6 increased the crystallization temperature. The rheological properties of nylon 6 nanocomposite were measured by ARES. The nanocomposites present non-Newtonian flow behavior over the frequency range examined, which is more noticeable at higher clay content. The incorporation of clay nanoparticles increases the η' notably with increasing clay content. In particular, it produces shear thickening behavior in the low frequency. However, shear thinning is followed after the frequency, and its degree is increased with clay content showing even lower η' than that of pure nylon 6 in the high frequency range. |
