Hollow fiber deoxygenation membrane process has been considered as one of the effective means to remove dissolved oxygen and gaseous activity existing in the primary system of a nuclear power plant. For applying this membrane technique to Reactor System, it is necessary to evaluate the deoxygenation membrane performances and the polymeric properties for long-term operation under radiation field. The effects of radiation dose on degradation of polypropylene hollow fiber membrane were evaluated using DSC, TGA, FT-IR, contact angle and mechanical properties in order to apply to wide range of applications and long-term operations in nuclear power plant. Even though the radiation dose increased, chemical, thermal and mechanical properties were hardly changed. The results of evaluation of polymeric properties showed that the radiation dose in the long-term operation would not affect an deoxygenation efficiency. As a further study, the dexoygenation performance will be examined using pilot-scale hollow fiber membrane system. |
