Solid polymer electrolytes have been widely investigated since the discovery of ionic conductivity in the PEO/KSCN complex by Wright et al. in the 1970s. It is widely accepted that amorphous polymers with low Tg and a high segmental mobility are important prerequisites for the high ionic conductivities. The recent researches of a bis-substituted polysiloxane with oligo(ethylene glycol) have been reported by Hooper et al. The polymer host having hexa(ethylene oxide)s in the side-chain showed the highest R.T. conductivity (4.0 x 10-4 S cm-1) when doped with lithium salt. However, the dimensional stability of those polymer electrolytes is poor. To overcome these drawbacks, we have synthesized PEO derivatives containing POSS which has been known to enhance mechanical and thermal properties. The PEO derivatives were obtained via hydrosilylation reaction of allyl-terminated part with Si-H group and polymer analogue reaction to incorporate oligo(ethylene glycol) in the side chain. |
