The control of the crystallization processes is a most important technique in the pharmaceutical industry. The nucleation and growth in the crystallization of organic materials are very sensitive to various parameters such as addition of cosolvents, low molecular additives, surfactants, and functional polymers. It has been found that the morphology of polar organic molecule crystals could be changed by the addition of oppositely charged polymeric additives. To understand the role of polymeric additives (Polyethyleneimine, PEI), the crystallization of a small organic molecule was performed in methanol/water mixture. It was obtained that PEI significantly affects the size of crystals, and crystallization temperature affects the number of nucleus. |
