Vietnam has been an agricultural country, which imports and uses a significant amount of pesticides in the past. Up to now, there have been a large number of stockpiles identified in sheds or unsafely burried. The stockpiles, especially buried stockpiles, are of great concern because of the lacking of control over storage conditions and high risk to human health. The industrial activities also caused POPs environmental problem such as releases of PCB contaiming oils and unintentionally produced Dioxin/Furan. Vietnam has been facing serious constraints in dealing with stockpiles of POPs, including constraints due to funding, access to appropriate technologies, and institutional framework. |
