Recently, research on Janus type nanoparticles (NPs) with two different polymer chains has been in progress. Au NPs have received interest due to their good accessibility to surface modification with various thiol-terminated ligands. For this reason Janus-type Au NPs can be easily synthesized by tuning the surface property of Au NPs with two different polymers. Also, mikto-arm star polymer can be easily synthesized via arm-first method with two different arms. However, research about chain conformation or phase behavior of the polymer chains is limited due to a lack of characterizing skills. Here, we utilize Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) to analyze the phase behavior of polymer chains of Janus-type Au NPs and mikto-arm star polymers prepared with deuterated polystyrene (dPS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) of various molecular weight. As a controlled experiment the phase behavior of dPS-r-PMMA, identical to that used in the NPs and star polymers, has also been studied. |
