In recent decades, photodynamic therapy using photosenstizer has been intensively studied and considered as a potential treatment of various tumors and nononcological disorders. The 2,4-diacetyl deuteroporphyrin IX dimethyl ether (Pp IX)-conjugated amphiphilic block copolymers containing folic acid ligands were synthesized. Photosensitizer-loaded nanoparticles (FA-PEG-P(Asp-Hyd)-Pp IX) were prepared by micelle formation in an aqueous solution. The results of release tests showed that the release profiles of Pp IX from the nanoparticles were strongly pH-dependent and influenced by the loaded amount of photosensitizer. FA-PEG-P(Asp-Hyd)-Pp IX nanoparticles were not cytotoxic without light and showed good cellular uptake. In addition, FA-PEG-P(Asp-Hyd)-Pp IX nanoparticles showed marked phototoxicity compared with free PpIX. |
